How to set up repair events for electricals in your area

This guide helps councils and community groups understand how to best set up electrical repair projects.

Between 2020 and 2025, we funded 22 repair pilots across the UK, finding new homes for 32,900 used electricals.

This guide draws on these experiences, focusing on schemes in Derry and Strabane, Ashford and Durham. It explains how repair cafés and pop-up events can bring people together to fix items, build skills and keep appliances in use for longer. The guide highlights key features to focus on: the importance of recruiting and training volunteers, running safe repair sessions, how to manage donations, and linking repair with recycling through simple drop-off points.

Download the guide to access a step-by-step checklist, cost ranges, and a communications toolkit to help users plan local services that fit their community.
