Newcastle City Council tested electricals kerbside collections and pop-up recycling events. Households could book a free collection, including vapes, while pop-ups provided convenient community locations for drop-offs. In 12 months, over 15 tonnes of electricals were collected.
As part of the Great Cable Challenge for International E-Waste Day, Newcastle United fans recycled 2,075 cables – enough to wrap the pitch more than 14 times!
Newcastle plans to continue the pilot on a smaller scale, keeping doorstep collections available while streamlining communications efforts.
