How to set up a community drop-off point in your area

Learn how to set up community drop-off points for small electricals in places people already visit – like libraries, leisure centres, schools and community hubs.

Between 2020 and 2025, we funded more than 500 community drop-off points for small electricals across the UK. These collected over 150 tonnes of electricals and made recycling easier for over 4.4 million households.

This guide draws on practical insights from these experiences, and focuses on pilot projects in North Tyneside, Hillingdon, Milton Keynes and Albrighton (in partnership with Hubbub).

The guide shows what makes a community drop-off scheme work well – including drop-off point locations, communications, partnerships, bin design, and data monitoring. You will also get access to a practical checklist, cost estimates and examples of communications assets to support planning, installation and promoting your drop-off points.
