Bookable collection boosts electrical recycling
Solihull Council introduced a free bookable kerbside collection for small electricals, batteries, paint and textiles, making it easier for residents to recycle from home. Working with Veolia, the council offered collections five days a week, with residents booking online and leaving items outside for pick-up by crew with a dedicated electric vehicle.
Social media, leaflets, engagement days and community events helped spread the word about the service.
In 12 months residents used the service to book 1,559 collections, recycling 7.62 tonnes of electricals and 0.71 tonnes of batteries.
