Improving recycling in towns and villages
Targeting towns and villages where there was a culture of recycling, Huntingdonshire District Council installed small bring banks in busy sites including car parks and local hubs. These gave residents easy local places to recycle small electricals.
Volunteers helped monitor the sites, while social media, leaflets and media releases promoted the message that anything with a plug, battery or cable can be recycled.
The pilot collected more than 12.5 tonnes of electricals in a year, increasing small electricals recycling sixfold, and cutting waste disposal costs.
