Building a repair and reuse culture
East London Waste Authority (ELWA) expanded electrical recycling and repair through collection points in schools, repair workshops and enhanced Repair Cafés.
Schools hosted pink recycling bins and Year 6 pupils took part in hands-on repair sessions. Meanwhile, recycling points and skilled fixers were added to existing Repair Cafés.
Supported by tailored communications, the project collected 4 tonnes of electricals, repaired 374 items and held 27 Repair Cafés in 12 months. It reached more than 4,000 people and helped build awareness of repair, reuse and recycling across East London.
