Our funding comes from UK WEEE Regulations Compliance Fees. These are paid by electrical producers if they don’t meet annual recycling targets set by the government. The fees are set higher than the average costs of collections to encourage collections to take place. We manage spending of the fees to support reuse and recycling of electricals in the UK.
In 2021 we spent £2.4 million as follows: insights 11%, investments 12%, inspiration 47%, support & administration 20%, irrecoverable VAT 10%.
An Advisory Panel works with us on our approach to the allocation of funds. The panel is made up of representatives from the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra), Approved Authorised Treatment Facilities Forum (AATF Forum), Industry Council for Electronic Equipment Recycling (ICER), Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee (LARAC), National Association of Waste Disposal Officers (NAWDO), WEEE Schemes Forum (WSF), Reuse Network, JTA and Environmental Services Association (ESA).

In 2021 we supported 17 local projects and worked with nearly 80 local authorities to make it easier for millions of people to recycle their unwanted electricals.
With a 40% increase in media coverage over the previous year we reached millions more people through advertising and PR, helping households understand the hidden value in old electricals and what to do with them.
We saw a 25% increase in visits to our website in the year and can now point people to more than 5,100 local recycling points vai our online locator.
As a result we’re seeing attitudes shift, behaviours change and real action on waste that will ease pressure on the environment and raw materials.
Our best-in-class recycling locator is hosted on our or other website www.Recycleyourelectricals.org.uk
